The Amar Jawan Jyoti Was Established In 1972. It Was Constructed After The 1971 Indo-Pak War, In Which India Played A Decisive Role, Leading To The Liberation Of Bangladesh (Formerly East Pakistan). It Was Built To Honor The Soldiers Who Laid Down Their Lives In The 1971 War And All Other Wars Fought By The Indian Armed Forces.
The Memorial Consists Of A Black Marble Pedestal With A Reversed Rifle, Capped By A Soldier's Helmet. The Words "Amar Jawan" (Immortal Soldier) Inscribed In Gold On All Sides. An Eternal-Flame That Burns Day And Night, Symbolizing The Undying Spirit Of The Soldiers.
In 2022, The Amar Jawan Jyoti Was Merged With The National War Memorial, Inaugurated In 2019, Located Nearby. The Flame At The Amar Jawan Jyoti Was Ceremonially Transferred To The National War Memorial To Consolidate The Nation’s Tributes At A Single Location Dedicated To All Soldiers.
